Purebred, Performance Tested Bulls
Jack Cooper started his herd of Line 1 Herefords in 1947. Unimpressed by the cattle generally winning in the shows during the 40’s and 50’s, Jack set his mind to producing cattle suited for the commercial bull market. He understood that range producers were looking for bulls with sound feet and legs which would enable them to travel well, and for animals with the inherent ability to put on pounds more efficiently than other cattle at the time. Jack also believed that by maintaining a strong line breeding program and paying close attention to performance records he could improve the uniformity and predictability of his herd. As a result, our program is the outcome of over 70 years of performance testing and selecting for traits that keep cattle producers profitable. We continue to place great emphasis on structural soundness and growth, in addition to key maternal traits. Our herd sires are kept for a maximum of three years with the assumption that a herd bull should produce sons better than he is within that time span less the herd is not progressing genetically.

The bottom side of this pedigree packs in great udders, longevity, and just enough carcass. 121J ranks in the top 15% of breed or better for CE, milk, MCE, marbling, CHB$. Used mainly on heifers.

A rising star in our program, we’re delighted we retained a semen interest in this 7156E son. Progeny have been well received across the industry for their phenotype and ability to excel in economically important traits. Solid performance numbers coupled with calving ease and excellent milk and MG make these sons pretty hard to pass on. Dam 6162D is our favorite 055X daughter. Our pick in Holden’s 2018 sale. 7156E combines phenotype and cow power with a very balanced EPD panel. Sons exhibit the length, depth of rib and muscling that our industry demands. We have retained use on several sons that are now in our herd bull line-up. Daughters are in production and really have that maternal look with good milk and nice udders.
