“The master of the garden is the one who waters it, trims the branches, plants the seeds, and pulls the weeds. If you merely stroll through the garden, you are but an acolyte.” ― Vera Nazarian
Driving home from work I took notice of a billboard just south of Belgrade. It pictures a black labrador whose face is covered in flat, greyish colored stickers with the words “Got Houndstongue” printed across the top. Clever, right? With the influx of out-of-staters making Montana their home in recent years, it’s no surprise that many of our state’s residents are likely unfamiliar with the numerous noxious weeds that dot our fields, hillsides, and city lots. What is surprising, is the number of landowners (yes, ranchers and farmers), who neglect to take a proactive role in weed control. As a landowner, it’s difficult and frustrating when you spend the time, money, and energy to control the spread of weeds only to have them invade your borders from the fields of neighbors. The following editorial was written by Mr. Pat Goggins and featured in a recent issue of the Western Livestock Reporter. Click Here
Perhaps we should all heed Mr. Goggins’ advice and “catch-up on our weeds” this fall.
Katie Sue and I doing our part to keep the noxious weeds under control at the CHR.
We spent a good bit of time this summer roaming the ranch with backpack sprayers ; )
