Holy Smokes. I just noticed that I haven’t posted anything since just after the bull sale. Time flies when you’re having fun, right ; )
As usual, we’ve been busy. April and May were two of the driest we’ve experience in close to 30 years. In fact, Dad can’t remember our dryland pasure EVER being as sparse as it was this year. We weren’t able to move all the cattle out to pasture until mid/late May. Which in turn lead to some awefully sparse haystacks around the ranch. It was the first time I can recall, at least in recent years, that our silage pit has been empty come May. Fortunately we made it through the spring by the skin of our teeth, and with a few haybales to spare.
Thankfully rain came in late May and early June and the hills around the ranch displayed a tinge of green shortly thereafter. As you can imagine, we’re chomping at the bit to get started repleneshing what we depleated throughout the winter. Chopping is underway and haying soon to follow.
Below are a few pics. taken throughout the spring.
Spring is in the air…and summer’s just around the corner.
